Melbourne based Ben Hazlewood has been making wave all the way from Australia. The LGBTQ artist just released his music video for Months & Miles and we had the opportunity to chat with him more about the project.
EYES & EDGE: Where does your inspiration come from when you are writing your music?
BEN HAZLEWOOD: I draw from my life experiences; things that I have been through. Songwriting is a cathartic way for me to make sense of what I am going through and where I have been.
E&E: Who influences you now?
BEN: Now more than ever I am influenced by the music I grew up on; artists like Janis Joplin, Freddy Mercury, The Doors, Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac……
E&E: In what ways are you active in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights in Australia?
BEN: By being unashamedly who I am I hope that people can be inspired by my actions and through my music and where ever I can I support my community. Ultimately, I write songs about all sorts of situations that I hope people can relate too, like those who are facing adversity on any level.
E&E: Describe yourself in 3 words. Describe your music in 3 words.
BEN: Strong, Sensitive, Loving. My Music: Intense, Emotive, Uplifting
E&E: What do you want your audience to think/feel when they listen to your music?
BEN: I hope that my music can push people beyond the normal scope of emotion and potentially unlock a rarely visited place that could enlighten and sooth the soul.
