Happy summer solstice! How are you celebrating the longest day of the year? We’ll be at our new favorite spot: Enso Winery. Enso, an urban winery and tasting lounge on SE Stark, is the perfect place to grab a delicious glass of wine without breaking the bank. With couches and a fireplace, the tasting lounge is reminiscent of a cozy living room. But, in the warmer months, Enso opens its giant garage doors to let in sunlight and fresh air. (It’s the best of both worlds.)
Enso winemaker, Ryan Sharp, sources his grapes from Washington, California and Oregon. Currently, they’re featuring 12 wines, ranging from a 2012 Pinot Blanc to a 2011 Malbec. They also carry guest wines from other PDX urban wineries like Hip Chicks Do Wine, a small selection of beer on tap and light fare (salami plate from Olympic provisions, cheese plate from Steve’s Cheese Bar) to help absorb all that vino.
But what we’re really most excited about is the release of their “Portland Sangria”, which is served in a pint glass with frozen berries. If you want to bring the sangria to a party (or keep it for yourself in the fridge — we won’t judge), you can grab a whole bag of the sangria! The $20 bag holds 1.5 liters of sangria (that’s two bottles of wine) and comes complete with a spigot for easy pouring.
To celebrate the first day of summer, Enso is having a party today, from 4-10PM, with glasses of sangria going for only $4 a pop (they’re normally $8). Bags of sangria will also be 10% off, so make sure to stock up! To make things even more festive, Taco Pedaler will be there, churning out fresh tacos, chips and salsa. After you’ve had your fill of sangria and tortillas, head to the back of the lounge for an “unofficial dance party”. We like the sound of that.
