Musicfest NW was this past weekend at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Even though there was high heat and smoke haze, people turned out to get down with their bands.
Honestly after a whole summer of music festivals we were kind of beat, and the majority of laid back bands didn’t help get our excitement up. There were exceptions to this, Beat Connection, Danny Brown, and Modest Mouse were our favorite sets of the last day. We wish that Beat Connection had played later on the last day, their music is perfect to get groovy to, the problem with them being the first band on a hot day was that barely anyone showed up. Listen to their vibe below:
Danny Brown played later that day, and for being the only hip-hop act of the weekend, he held it down. His energy was on point, and he has the charisma of a Dave Chappelle character. Another wish for next year is to see more hip-hop, they could even pull Seattle artists to help strengthen the PNW hip-hop scene.
The closer of the whole festival, Modest Mouse, brought the house down too. Isaac Brock still has it in him, and he is a veteran of playing in front of large crowds. Modest Mouse was a perfect way to end the weekend.
