On May 19th, Chicago band, Speck Mountain, will be making a much-anticipated stop in Portland on their west coast tour. With warm vocals from lead singer, Marie-Claire Balabanian, and dreamy, mesmerizing guitar from Karl Briedrick, Speck Mountain’s style has been aptly dubbed, “ambient soul”. Balabanian and Briedrick (who are considered musical soulmates) share the songwriting duties, while drummer, Chris Dye, and organist, Linda Malonis, aid in the development of the band’s textured sound.
Speck Mountain released their third album, Badwater, in January 2013 on Carrot Top Records. They are promoting the album on tour this spring, ending with an epic show with Sharon Van Etten at Millennium Park in the city they call home.
The band also recently released a non-album song, “Lies”, which you can listen to here. Even better? See them live, this Sunday, with Andrew Graham & The Swarming Branch and The Slidells at Valentines! You won’t regret it.
