As we head out to the gorge for Memorial Day weekend, we see many bright faces driving down the long road into the camping area of Sasquatch Music Festival. This place has something for every type of music listener, and once in a lifetime views to go along with it. As we step into the festival grounds and roam until our feet hurt, we get to see what an amazing time it was this year to be at Sasquatch.
Day 1: As day one started off we took a moment to listen to Corey Harper, a singer songwriter who just recently got off tour with Justin Bieber. A soft voiced, good looking guy with a sweet set of hands that can shred on the guitar. He was nothing short of amazing, and there probably wasn’t a better person to start off this festival with.
Run The Jewels, the rap supergroup consisting of Killer Mike and El-P, came to the Crystal Ballroom last Monday to perform for a sold out crowd. From the back of the venue to the top of the rafters, RTJ fanatics shouted incessantly for the super group to hit the stage.
As fans held their fists with two fingers pointing at it, RTJ walked on stage for their set. The ballroom floors got their work in (the floors at the Crystal bounce, if you didn’t know) when Killer Mike and El-P ran through their discography. Tracks from the group’s current album including “Call Ticketron” and “Stay Gold” kept the fans going crazy. RTJ classics such as “Get It” and “Lie, Cheat, Steal” had the fans reciting almost every word (which is impressive due to the rapid rhyme scheme that is normal to RTJ).
Coming off two 2016 releases Traphouse Jodeci and “Private Suite” EYES & EDGE caught up with the hungry new R&B act Ye Ali. For a man who spent a lot of time on the move, his recent choice of stay has been Los Angeles. His music draws inspiration from the city life and his own past as well present experiences. Ye Ali’s songwriting aches for the stability of an invested woman while acknowledging the wandering temptations of lust. He is a man whose lyrics go beyond the R&B hits. His music resonates a deeper chord amongst the devious minds of singles spending their nights chasing club lighting in the city of Angels.
EYES & EDGE: Things are falling into place and your new album is super hot. How are you feeling since the project dropped?
Ye Ali: Working on new music daily and just continuing to reach new fans. I always feel good so a positive response from the fans enhances my usual mood, a bit. Overall, I am focused on getting better and creating from a deeper place.
