This year’s sold-out TEDxPortland event revolves around one question: “What if?” This central theme will permeate the innovative speeches, performances and a special art exhibition. The WHAT IF? Art & Design Exhibition is a curated collaboration between TEDxPortland and the University of Oregon, with Molly Georgetta and Tomas Valladares at the helm. The exhibition, which features the work of 26 talented national and regional artists, spans a diverse range of disciplines and forms. Aligning with the mission of TED, there’s an underlying commitment to the exploration of visual media’s intersection with technology and science in popular culture.
From April 4th to April 24th, the pieces will be displayed at University of Oregon in Portland’s White Box Gallery. After the White Box, the exhibition will be installed at the Portland Art Museum on April 27th for the TEDxPortland event being held there. While we urge you all to go and view the actual pieces, we’re most excited to tell you about the charitable component of this exhibition. Starting April 17th, all of the pieces will be available for bidding in an online auction powered by the Portland Mercury. Every penny from this auction will benefit the Children’s Healing Art Project (CHAP), and, to make it even better, the Nike Foundation will match the amount raised! Celebrating creativity and ingenuity while helping a good cause? We would definitely call that a win-win situation.
