There’s no shortage of antique shops in the Sellwood neighborhood, and we’ve spent many hours scouring them all for the good finds. Lucky for us, there’s a new shop in town that houses some of Portland’s best vintage dealers and local artisans under one roof. The VDC (Vintage Design Collective) opened on November 5th, but it’s already filled with mid-century modern furniture and other kitschy relics of the past. When we went to check it out, we were in awe of the space; located in the Masonic building, it has huge windows and high ceilings. Owners Michael and Tony are planning on using every inch of that space, too, with plans of operating as a florist, a coffee shop, a jewelry store, an art gallery and a host for Chefstable events with beer and wine. Whether you’re looking for a piece of vintage furniture, or want to sip on a latte while you check out a local artist’s work, Michael and Tony just want you to have fun.
Remnant, Legacy Importing, Eric Kelly and A.D. Busch Designs are just a few of the vendors currently selling at VDC. We were drooling over a vintage Scandinavian table and the retro kitchen tools, but there’s really something for everyone here. If you can’t make it to VDC, they will have an e-commerce site up and running soon with some of the items available for purchase online. Keep up with new items and events at VDC on their facebook page.
